Nicky Briggs was working as the deputy editor of a British national newspaper when she was approached to work for LexisNexis.

Making the move from newspapers to information solutions was, she says, a great opportunity to experience a faster pace and more innovative culture. “That really excited me.”
In her time with us her role has expanded. She was hired as editorial director, but now has responsibility for commissioning and licensing of content, the authoring and editing of it, production and the distribution, and also the new technologies we use to deliver content in efficient and exciting ways.
“LexisNexis has given me those challenges, which has been fantastic and I like to constantly seek out the next challenge.”
The commercial targets she has to meet are constantly challenging. But what she has found refreshing is the way the commercial mixes with “softer” priorities – like the commitment to personal development and the Reed Elsevier community programme, RE Cares.
“I’ve never come across that before, that unique thing, to actually focus absolutely on the commercial realities of the business but also on things that make you feel better about working there, and to feel really good about working there, which actually ultimately affects the bottom line anyway.”
How would she describe the working culture at LexisNexis? “You’ve got very strong individuals who recognise that we need to work together to be successful truly as a company.” Her colleagues, she says are “like-minded”, “bright”, “innovative” and “absolutely passionate about what they do.”
