I'm responsible for sales strategy, business development and sales effectiveness for the global sales groups of Elsevier Science and Technology (S&T). It's the worldwide nature of the job that excites me. Elsevier is one of the most global companies I've ever experienced – and I've seen a lot of companies in my career, particularly as a management consultant with McKinsey&Company where I worked for five years before taking on this role. Our sales team interacts with around 13,000 customers in 150 countries and we're active everywhere where scientific research is performed - from the major economies to smaller countries like Mauritius, from government institutes to universities to corporations.

However, although we're a truly global organisation, we're also entrepreneurial. This means we can move relatively fast, try out things and be creative – but, and this is the crucial part - we can do this at a multi-national level with global scale. I've worked for a range of companies before and most are either too small to make a major impact, or so big that they bog you down with bureaucracy. So here at Elsevier I think we're in a pretty unique situation.

I appreciate working for a company that cares passionately about scientific endeavour. There's a long and proud history of supporting science at Elsevier and the people here really care about that. I enjoy the intellectual inquisitiveness of our teams and the opportunities to have conversations with vice chancellors of universities, science ministers in governments, research managers at top companies and global policy advocates at the World Bank - Elsevier has something meaningful to contribute in all these conversations. Being at the forefront of developing research information tools and insights for our customers is a very exciting place.
