Vice president commercial, strategy and new business, Reed Exhibitions Greater China
China is a major producer of goods for the rest of the world, so exhibitions is a big commercial sector here – and it's getting bigger every year. At Reed Exhibitions, we act as matchmakers, introducing buyers and sellers to each other and creating a platform for networking and trade.
My job is to manage the commercial decisions for various business units and strategy planning for the company. That includes everything from leading the business team to managing acquisitions, joint ventures and partnerships, reviewing our plans, setting budgets and exploring new areas that have potential for us. We're already active in many sectors, including machinery, gifts, pharmaceuticals and electronics – but there are many other markets where we can make an impact. There are so many new shows in the pipeline in China and so much opportunity – we're definitely not standing still here. But ultimately our strength comes down to our focus on winning. This is a very competitive industry and the barriers to entry are very low. Anywhere in the world that there's an exhibition hall is an opportunity for us or for our competitors.
Born in Singapore, I also lived in Thailand and the US before moving to Beijing in 2009, so the global aspect of Reed is something I'm very comfortable with. Reed is a big company and the opportunities are limitless for me... my next move could be to another continent or to another city in China. It depends on what's required in order to grow our business and also meet the changing needs of our customers.
