In simple terms, what does the eMPOWERx do?
As well as enabling me to send prescriptions electronically to any pharmacy, eMPOWERx also provides a database of my patients, detailing medications taken in the past three months, the prescribing physicians, and patient allergies. Importantly, it also highlights any possible interaction between medications.
How has it made a difference to you?
eMPOWERx has made the prescribing process much more efficient. Patients are more protected from prescribing errors as the electronic prescriptions are clear, and refills are requested automatically. Overall, we receive far fewer queries from pharmacists now that we use eMPOWERx.
What’s the really innovative aspect of this product, in your view?
The innovative aspect of this product, in my view, is the ability to provide the physician with such comprehensive information about the patient and the medications they are taking. Instant access to information on a patient’s allergies, and how the medication may interact with these, is extremely useful. eMPOWERx also allows me to send prescriptions electronically from my PDA when I am out of the office, which is terrific.
What support do you get from Elsevier in using this product?
On the few occasions where I have experienced technical difficulties, the technical support team have always responded quickly and effectively.
Has this product become integral to the way your organisation works?
Definitely – my workflow is much more efficient. eMPOWERx is now an integral part of my practice and I couldn’t be without it.
