The Reed Elsevier Code of Ethics and Business Conduct guides people within the company on how we can achieve our business goals in a way that is open, honest, ethical and principled.
The Code incorporates the provisions of the UN Global Compact, to which Reed Elsevier is a signatory.
Following approval from the Reed Elsevier Board in 2006, we updated the Code to include a simplified policy on conflict of interest and clear guidelines for employees on how to use Reed Elsevier systems to send, receive and store information. We also clarified the processes we use to control fraud, particularly with regard to communications with internal and external auditors.
We have introduced an online training course on our Code for US employees. This is now being rolled out group-wide. We’ve also made it easier for employees to report violations of the Code and other ethical concerns they might have. They do this using an anonymous electronic form. In the US we have also established a confidential phone line to report concerns. This will, in time, be introduced in other parts of the company.
