*This covers three divisions in the UK for which we were able to identify distance travelled and emissions.
Air
Domestic air travel in 2008, consistent with 2007, was responsible for 6% of emissions. Short haul flights increased from 37% of total air travel in 2007 to 43% in 2008, while long-haul flights reduced from 57% to 51%.

The number of journeys by air also fell overall by 15%, with the biggest decrease in long-haul flights.

Rail
Rail still remains a small part of our total emissions (less than 0.1%). Although strongly promoted as an alternative to flying, costs are often higher. Rail is used on key routes, for example, between New York and Washington, and London, Paris and Brussels; in 2008, 58% of rail travel occurred in the US.

Car
Our car fleet reduced by 8% in 2008, yet was still responsible for 24% of total travel emissions. In the year, we captured miles travelled for business in personal cars through our expense system for three UK divisions (representing another 2% of total transport emissions). In 2009, we aim to collect more personal car data and will review our global car policy. We are also planning to introduce training on fuel efficient driving techniques to reduce fuel costs and emissions.
