Reed Elsevier has been ranked within the top ten in the new FTSE CDP Carbon Strategy 350 Index, which re-weights companies based on their carbon risk and performance. The full results were published in June by ENDS Carbon, the analysts for the index series.
Coming in just ahead of Tesco and just behind Vodafone Group, Reed Elsevier was ranked seventh out of 350 companies for its carbon management. Within the top ten, Reed Elsevier came top for managing carbon in the supply chain.
Unilever grabbed the top spot overall, demonstrating a superb track record in reducing carbon emissions.
“These leading companies show just how much progress can be made to reduce carbon emissions with a concerted effort,” said Dr. Craig Mackenzie, Technical Director, ENDS Carbon and chief analyst for the FTSE CDP Carbon Strategy Index.
Companies were ranked using the Carbon Scorecard developed by ENDS Carbon, data from the Carbon Disclosure Project, and information from company websites. Reed Elsevier achieved an overall score of 71.7% on the Carbon Scorecard, which looks at over 40 indicators in six performance areas.
“The Carbon Strategy Index is indicative of the growing interest investors have in this key environmental area,” said Mark Gough, Reed Elsevier’s Global Environmental Manager. “At Reed Elsevier, we are committed to continually improving our environmental understanding and performance with the help of our Environmental Champions and Socially Responsible Supplier networks.”
